I have a couple of books like the one you found. I found Henry's versions much more entertaining. I hope he'll continue to post.

As for wishing it were in English...last Saturday on NPR was broadcast Mozart's Cosi fan tutti in English. I was excited, because I rarely hear a beautiful opera in English. (Sorry, I just can't get into Benjamin Britten.) Anyway, to my amazement, I could barely make out any of it anyway, and was as reliant as usual on the between-acts announcer.

You might enjoy a Gilbert and Sullivan production.
