The diffusion tubes are large and run very hot. They have to be very very clean to prevent driving in contamination that will change the electrical properties of the devices. Being large quartz tubes they may very well have broken and must be replaced. There may also be a problem with the cantilever systems that load and unload the wafers into the furnace. If the tubes and cantilevers got all shook up they shed quartz particles that will rain on the wafers and stick, again requiring they be replaced. They didn't just loose 1 or 2 diffusion tubes they lost them all. I doubt they have enough quartz tubes in country to replace all they may need to replace. If they try to compromise and use defective tubes they'll create a major quality problem that may not get detected until failures occur in the field. I suspect it will take at least a month working around the clock to properly bring a fab back online after such a major tragedy. They'll have to "qual" each tool in the fab separately. Then they'll have to run test lots through the fab from end-to-end to qual the whole factory. This is major downtime. Who needs to buy Pentiums or DRAM if they can't get 100% of the components needed to build their boards? Nobody. Short MU and buy puts.
