Geneva is the real world. CDMA2000 competes with 5 other standards that will deploy more than likely along geopolitcial and ecomonic lines. Japan is a fracture market the same as the US with a three or four digital 2G standards. Korea has developed it's own standard, which they probably will deploy in their own country, plus I think they have setup a testbed in Kansas City. China has SDMA, whatever that is, and probably will deploy it. All are being harmonized to have interoperatibility. There is CDMA that will use FDD, TDD and a combo of. Europe is W-CDMA and the TDMA has there standard.

You are wrong about Geneva bureaucrat's, as they are representatives of the manufacturer's, operators, technical standard and governmental bodies, which are all members of the ITU.
