Here is a real life example of what I am talking about.

Last night I got on a plane to come home. It was Southwest airlines and therefore it is a cattle call. I *always* get to the airport early to make sure that I get an aisle seat. I hate...*hate*, middle seats.

Anyway, the plane filled up and there were only middle seats left, one by me and another a few rows up. A father and young daughter (7 or 8 years old) got on the plane and they were going to be separated. The little girl was clearly uncomfortable sitting between two strangers. I volunteered to the father to give up my seat and sit in the middle seat a couple of rows up so that they could sit together. The good feeling that I got by helping them out far exceeded my discomfort for sitting in a middle seat. I know that this seems like a trivial thing, but as I said, I think that the little things are very important.
