PatiBob you are correct.

My 3 yr old has seen and held all of my guns. My six year old has shot my .22. Nobody will shame me or convince me that is wrong. When I take the time I do with these weapons and when I clean them and check them 3 and 4 times to make sure they are unloaded, my children see the respect I have for the power contained in these guns.

I let them touch them because they ask, then we discuss what they should and should not do when they come upon a gun in anothers house. They will not in mine because I have a nice gun safe bolted to the floor and wall in my basement. My guns go in there excpet for my 357, which has nice Golden Sabres loaded, "just in case."

The point is my children are getting less and less curious about my guns, but when I take them out they want to shoot them. That is a good curiousity. My oldest goes to skeet matches with me and sees the destruction possible. I think it registers that that big black gun, and what comes out the end, blows things apart! I think he learns to respect the gun.

Teaching and showing and touching is an important part of learning for all children. Guns included.....
