Now we all know why GIC sold to MOT with no premium. GIC management knew that competition was imminent so they "got" while the "getting" was good. Analyst Dan Myers said, "We believe that US cable is undergoing a major restructuring; moving from closed, proprietary systems to open systems based on standards. As a result, cable equipment suppliers such as General Instrument Corp.(GIC .N) and Scientific-Atlanta Inc. (SFA.N) are under attack from newcomers such as Sony Corp.(6758.T) and C-Cube."
