As I temporarily extricate myself from a very painful financial transaction negotiation and closing, where is my first refuge? Anyway, here is what my parents first saw when they came to see me on Parents' Weekend my freshman year of college: at least a couple dozen spent liquor bottles proudly displayed on the shelves where books should have been, and a little dorm refrigerator full of cold frosty beers (probably Olympia or some other cheap pungent mixture as we were on a tight budget!) I had two roommates, and the father of one of them owned a bar and bowling alley, so the alcohol was basically free, except for the beer, which we drank too fast to allow for periodic replenishments when my buddy went home for an occasional weekend. My folks were kind of worried until I made the Dean's List my first semester. After that, they had no interest in knowing the details of college life. I am older now than my mother was then, and I have another 13 years before my first is off to college. Back to the trenches .... Have a great weekend.
