After the agreement of merger but before the actual merger, Cologne, a subsidiary of General Re experienced a 250MM loss. A loss reserve of 275MM was set up and charged in dec of 1998 [according to the footnote in your post] a .00925 unanticipated variance from the purchase price. The rest of the adjustments are as Benkea has indicated, I believe.
