Ballmer wasn't saying anything new - Ballmer has been making public statements about the high valuation of Microsoft's stock for quite some time (as has Gates). So why haven't Ballmer's statements received such media play in the past? Because the market currently is on such narrow footing that investors react to what may regarded as minor issues.

If the market were on solid footing, investors wouldn't be holding their breath every time a CPI, PPI or employment number was released - or evaluating every word that comes out of Greenspan's mouth - or paying so much attention to what Steve Ballmer says, as in yesterday's case.

Thanks,
