So, 10 cm memory bus is out of question at what 700 MHz. It could only get worse at 800 mHz as was rumored previously in a article I can't remember. It seems to me that we have to redesign of bus length significantly to reduce bus length by at least 50%. Rambus RDRAM technology as we know it now is in trouble because it orginally had 3 standard form factor RIMM's at 800 Mhz.
They have to start to think about limiting number of RIMMs -- unacceptable -- or raising quantity of RDRAM on each RIMM -- less unacceptable.
I don't see this as serious problem since signal lines should be the same (correct me if I am wrong). However, the form factor would be different so 820 mobos need probably need to be redesgned. Then, heat dispersal becomes more important factor -- more mobo/chassis changes. IMO the Camino designs that have been trotted out so far look like they have to go back to drawing board. Where do we stand now. Camino is becoming a lame duck. Carmel was rumored by Register to be cancelled. I can see why if Camino flops with half the technological complexity. Intel or better Rambus has to state the current problems and the nature of the fixes needed.
