Dear folks:
I'm only a stupid engineer - BUT---, expanded from the cold? The only material that I'm aware of that expands from the cold is water. Everything else contracts and sinks in its own liquid. Water expands from the cold (ice expands and becomes a solid and floats on top of liquid water or else we'd be up to our butts in ice!!! Ice would sink to the ocean bottom and accumulate there in huge quantities.) and it expands when it's heated to a gaseous state(steam). No other material does this. If you know of one, for God's sake tell me!!! We'll share the Nobel Prize!

Water expands during its phase change from liquid to solid or liquid to gas. Plastics do NOT.

The new "non wood materials" look good to me. Since I'm in Florida (land of the termite), I'm mighty pleased to use the non-wood material. Use whatever you want, wherever you are. And good luck!!

If these plastic materials expand very much when heated or cooled, well----I'd be kinda' surprised.

Do you have data or just the formulation of an opinion?

Regards.
