"There are 300 million mobile-phone users in the world," he says. "If we can get 2 million of them to use Iridium, the project will make money." One of Iridium's problems is that its handsets are bulky. Kyocera has an answer to that problem: It is manufacturing its own small Iridium phone, a conventional cellular phone that can be used in cities as is or be plugged into a bulkier satellite receiver when the user goes off to the jungle. ...
