CDMA - Does QCOM own wideband AND narrowband?

I've been trying to figure out all day where the huge influx of visitors to our www.TelecomTechStocks.com web site from SI was coming from. Friday alone, we had over 50% more visitors (total 330 plus) than our previous highest day. And there was a 1000% increase in visitors from Silicon Investor Friday.
Well, this post from Bob Craig (and its predecessor posts from Rose Campion and ruffian) must be the cause:

"Some investors, however, falsely believe that because third and fourth generation wireless standards will be based on CDMA, therefore Qualcomm will be the chief beneficiary. But Qualcomm's technology is narrowband CDMA while most of the world will adapt third and fourth generation technology which is wideband CDMA, a much different animal

Not so OT Rose. Definitely a man with an agenda. He seems to be suggesting that Q's patents don't extend to WCDMA. I wouldn't qualify him as "objective" but... If I remember, IJ (at the analysts meeting) said it didn't matter what flavor of CDMA came next, ie, Q gets its royalties. I look forward to rebuttals from those more in the know..."

Thanks for the offer of an opportunity for rebuttals, Bob!

There are other sections of this new www.TelecomTechStocks.com web site (featured in the Wall Street Journal's "Heard on the Net" column Sept. 11) that might also be of interest to readers on this Qualcomm thread. For example:

1. Qualcomm has its own "button" for links to up-to-date stats, news and other web sites of particular interest to QCOM investors. This is found on the site's home page at:
telecomtechstocks.com

2. Banner headlines, which change daily, link visitors to the latest important news for QCOM, Ericsson, Nokia, InterDigital, Nortel, Cisco and Texas Instruments. Again, its near the top on the home page at: telecomtechstocks.com

3. A piece on the site called "Narrowband vs. Wideband CDMA: Its all about bandwidth, stupid!" is part of a beginners' level article explaining technology in easy to grasp (if perhaps over simplified) language. Article is called: "Telecom Technology for Non-Techies" It can be found at: telecomtechstocks.com

4. "Next Generation Engineering" section briefly notes the interrelationship of Qualcomm, Ericsson, Nokia and InterDigital in the press toward 3rd and 4th generation international standards. It is at: telecomtechstocks.com

5. Finally, a section labeled "Competition Risks" notes the importance of Qualcomm and its pioneering work with CDMA as a fierce competitor to InterDigital, Ericsson and Nokia, among others. It is at: telecomtechstocks.com

Again, thanks for the invitation of rebuttals, Bob! Sure hope your move went well today and your getting settled in your new abode!

PS I've invested in QCOM for a long while, along with other Telecom tech & equipment companies. I've done well with QCOM stock, but believe in "lightening up" from time to time by buying other up and comers. Sure wish others had management and public relations staffs to equal Qualcomm - Never found any better so far!
