Hikari Tsushin has a US$300m fund in California to invest in telecoms. They also want to leverage those little shops they have all over Japan for wireless/pda/other appliance sales. Japanese need brick and mortar at the final stage of an internet transaction, it seems, hence the 7-11/Softbank book deal as well as the focus on BAMs like Daiei, Ito-Yokado.

As well, Goodwill runs the back end processing for 9435 and processes all the phone numbers with DDI (the phone service provider) in Japan. They'll do a brisk business with the explosion of i-mode in Japan. i-mode already has 1m units, 50m cell phones in Japan, so Goodwill should do well. A little pricey, though: Goodwill=TSE#4735
65.5m yen, looks like it opened around July/99 at just over 20m.

Sagawa Kyubin delivers the Hikari Tsushin products. Don't know their ticker but sounds like a possible play. Yamato would be competitor but Sagawa is the exclusive for HT.

Well done on the Yahoo!
