Dear Baffled, No doubt you honestly don't have a clue. A crime is committed and we cry out why? To save the world, we demand more laws... which only the people who follows laws don't break to begin with. There is our first clue - criminals commit crimes. They don't care about laws. Background checks can be circumvented. And since you mentioned Columbine, the kids who did the shooting bought guns in a manner that skirted the law anyway - despite their age making it illegal! Why own a handgun? Speak to a few hunters. And when you do, bring lots of paper and pens to take notes. Cops? Ask them as well. Add The founding Fathers of the US, the countries under tyranny and oppression.... The root of the problem is moral decay. Teach our kids right from wrong in a manner in which they develop a conscience, can morally process the temptations they face, and can weigh the worth of every person, and laws won't be needed.
