Jastrom is the messenger of a useful history lesson - nothing more. I let the data tell me when to buy, and that is when the world monetary system is in extreme disequilibrium, as now. Deflation and inflation are but two sides of the same coin, one is a breakdown in the payment promise pyramid, the other a cascade of crashing currencies. Either way, excess is punished, and gold has a sobering manner of bringing everyone back to their senses towards the center of value.
