Limtex,

I meant a CD-RW drive, not CD-R.

I priced some HP, Creative Labs, Memorex, and Philips CD drives at BestBuy last weekend. There was an HP model with 2x write and 48x read speeds for sale under $200.00 and some very attractive free standing drives from Philips.

Many of the new peripherals are coming out as USB only. I have a 3 year old Pentium 200MMX desktop and have not upgraded to Windows 98. Fortunately I have 2 USB ports (the salesguy said, "These may come in handy some day.").

When it comes down to brass tacks I may just spring for a new PC altogether next year. I got a nice Celeron 400 MHz based PC for my folks recently for under $1000 from Dell with Windows 98, a bunch of RAM and a built-in Zip drive. If you have an old desktop PC you may consider investing in an upgrade. (Make sure to ask for a PCMCIA bay or a CF slot!!!) I am very interested in some of the newer models with rotating portrait/landscape LCD screens with the processor and rest of the guts tucked in underneath or behind.

I think my PC has a couple of good years left in it and I want to make full use of my peripherals before abandoning the system. By that time the state-of-the-art for LCD displays will be ripe for the picking.
