Limtex, In response to, "I need somewhere to store my photos.":

For the past 9 months I have been using a Yamaha CD-RW (model CRW4416E) IDE drive for backing up my HD. It has performed flawlessly. I paid approximately $385 for it, but the price might be lower now. The specifications are:
4X Write CDR --- 4X Write/Rewrite CD-RW --- 16X Read

On Labor Day I purchased 25 each CD-RW (bulk - CompUSA brand) 4X blanks at CompUSA for $29.95.

It takes about 20 minutes to backup approximately 600 MB on my system using 4X blanks.

Right now I am interested in stepping up to the HP DVD+RW Drive which, if I remember correctly, will sell for around $600. The 3 GByte removable DVD+RW disk will sell for about $30. This drive is supposed to be available in the autumn 1999. Remember though, there are competing standards and technologies, and DVD+RW might not be the winner.
