Limtex,

With the retail agreements I believe that SanDisk will make out like a bandit by selling both SM and CF.

The biggest problem with SM, as you know, (with the lack of the controller and universality) has been product incompatibility (within product lines) and formatting problems (between platforms). I am sure this has driven both retailers and OEM's nuts because of consumer complaints and returns. I also suspect SanDisk was somewhat reluctant to be associated with this product line because of customer support issues, which can be costly. Also, difficulties with SanDisk SM could reflect poorly on the image Eli and Co. have worked so hard to build.

Storage capacity is another issue because of the thinness of the form factor.

Unfortunately, the salespeople don't tell you about the SM drawbacks when you buy the devices that use them.

I still believe that the Olympus and Fuji digital cameras are outstanding. They would be more outstanding with CF, IMHO.

(p.s. I think the 48 MB and 64 MB CompactFlash cards are still the best values currently at ~$95 and ~$145, respectively, over the Internet. That is, if you can find them.)
