Not to minimize your anxiety, but it seems to me that this becomes like the proverbial "glass half full, glass half empty." In the larger cities the number of "potential" victims becomes greater so your chances of being victimized lessen!? No? <G>

As you may have guessed from my alias, I live smack dab in the middle of NYC and feel quite safe! I actually spent my younger years in Phoenix in the days when it might have qualified as one of your safer environments. More recently, beginning 25 years ago, I have spent a good deal of time in Sedona, AZ - population 16,000, so it is not that I don't know what you are talking about. Now when I visit small towns I feel much less "secure" than here because of the isolation, quiet and darkness of night (lack of street lights).

As to driving in large metropolitan areas....that's an entirely different story! LOL
