the FED is running the presses so there is no cash shortage in case of December bank-run Y2K jitters.

"Cranking up the printing presses is just a figure
of speech nowadays, with most money sitting around
in electronic form, not as paper. The extra dollars
being printed now are not yet circulated, but warehoused,
and won't be circulated unless banks need them to
cover cash withdrawals, a deflationary event, since
excess withdrawals will mean an unwinding of the
multiplier effect.
