That passage does not seem like it was spoken. The rhythm and cadence and the way it flows makes it appear written.

And, it is not written in the first person, so whoever
wrote was interpreting what someone else said... I am not convinced they got it verbatim.

And if someone was to say, in another way, "remember this" the words below may well be a way to send that message since writing was not a mass communication at that point. Saying the spoken word was important is kind of a moot point because there was no other mass communication available... it probably was a lot more important because of this. But this is mutually exclusive of the issue that the spoken word changes over time.

Just my opinion.
