To run as fast as Rambus is supposed to, you have to remove signal reflections (spurs). This means impedance matching. To me this dictates a single "memory" connector with the encapsulated module being the size procured. Just as Intel left the "socket" and went to an encapsulated module ... the memory of fast computers will not be "stackable". It may be selectable .. but not chunk by chunk. Multiple connecters might be accommodated provided the empty connector has "termination" installed .. but I see the memory being much like the processor.. available at various performances levels, but in a single, controlled signal path, single module.
