Seems like folks are getting interested again. Danny Deadlock stalktalk.com puts out a fine newsletter and once thought very highly of Biolabs before cooling somewhat. I just picked this off his last email to non-paid subscribers: ---------------------------------------------------------- IV. - BIOLABS biolabs.com
Now hear's one that we haven't heard about since Feb/99 when they went public. After months of research leading up to that period, I was sure this was a company with enormous potential. They could still be sitting on top of a major discovery in the treatment and diagnosis of breast cancer, but once they went into the clinical trial stage I learned that exposure on the Internet is the last thing they needed as it only harms the reputation of any company undergoing such critical clinical trials. I still believe they rushed into going public and should have waited until this winter. The stock is still trading in the same price range $3 to $5 but until they are caught up on filings, I never know if they are quoted under BILB, BILBE, or some other crazy symbol I've seen lately.
What I did learn this week though, was that they have secured some major financing during this period, and that their partner, Biotherapies of Michigan has some of the leading brains in the cancer research field working on the Mammastatin protein discovery at a very impressive lab in Michigan. In June they started a critically important trial program at one of the most well respected clinics in the U.S. - MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. You can obtain information on Biotherapies from their new website: biotherapiesinc.com
Hopefully this winter I'll have a bit more to report as clinical trials progress. We are still hoping though that these companies will be the first companies in the world to release a simple blood test that will test a woman's risk and/or presence of breast cancer, years before it can be physically detectable. In theory, the Mammastatin protein could work the same way as insulin does for a diabetic.
For those living in British Columbia, you can see at the Biotherapies website where the Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, is playing a critical part in this research project (under the future clinical trials section of the site).
The following link will take you to the MD Anderson site and the link for the doctor leading the research project. If you know of anyone at an advanced stage of breast cancer, they may want to follow up on this. I cannot confirm, but have heard that prior to this program at MD Anderson, the treatment has been responsible for some amazing patient recoveries. utm-notes-db2.mdacc.tmc.edu fc862565fb0002f3ba/c0718e6a6a36316e862567f3004f55ec?OpenDocument ---------------------------------------------------------
I don't think the link to the MD Anderson will work as it it an URL that is under constant update. Instead go to utm-notes-db2.mdacc.tmc.edu -Select "breast" -Scroll down to "mammastatin / Esteva, Francisco, M.D. / DM98-277Dr Francisco Esteva
Nice to see Danny getting interested again--watch for more interest from other newsletter writers. Dan (no relation to Danny!!) |
