Cheeky,

embedded.com

Ten months ago in this space I asked for those of you who have encountered year 2000 (Y2K) problems in embedded systems you're developing to let me know. In all of the e-mails I received, no one cited a verifiable problem.

Third, it's difficult to prove a negative (try proving you're not a witch). Just because there has never been a verified sighting of a flying saucer doesn't prove that one won't be hovering over your house tonight.

You know, during my recent talks to try to calm people (senior citizens especially) regarding the most outrageous Y2K fears, ie. power interruptions, pacemaker failures etc., I have offered to replace the first computer sent to me that will not work next January 1 if the clock is set to 23:59:00 on 31Dec1999 and it will stop working in one minute OR it cannot be re-booted after it rolls over to 01Jan2000.

Upon receiving such a computer (286 or higher), I will send the sender a cheque for $1000 (Cdn of course).

I started this six months ago, and I have yet to be taken up on my offer.

Any takers here?

Jim
