Larry, you needn't see any increase in the reported short position this next month, in spite of the fact that the short parties were clearly selling. This is because the selling could have been an 'unboxing' of their boxed short position from trading the rolling stock this spring. We've discussed this before. In fact, given the evidence that shares of Valence are harder to come by for shorting purposes, if I was involved in a death spiral game, I would have shorted and then boxed my short position in the 6 months prior, just as we saw. That way, come the onset of the death spiral I would not have been dependent upon access to fresh shares to short, rather I could just reach into my pile of long shares. Yet the reported short interest would not increase.

Doesn't take an advanced degree to see what a hedge fund would do: keep its options open at all times.
