Mani - RE: "AMD also took 4 out of 4 in labtop arena. Not bad."

Maybe that will help AMD retain their retail notebook share of 67%!

From the yahoo thread -

"I talked to a salesman as he came up while I was writing down on my PDA what the systems were and I was in front of the empty slot for the Athlon 650, He told me right away that that was the biggest best machine in the store - I told him I was familiar with the Athlon and he still kept wanting to gush about how great it was. I asked him about availability and he said that they had had 5 Athlon 650s when they opened and that they were gone by 2pm. Expects to get more in a couple days - Said that they had actually had systems in the store and selling for about 2 weeks now and that they had gone thru at least 4-5 stacks like that one (I looked up on top of the displays to see 12 aptiva boxes stacked up) I was just about to leave after writing down all the systems I had seen - and hadnt seen any P3 600s or 550s so I asked and he showed me the HP P3-600 on the aisle end cap but beyond the rest of teh department. As far as he knew there has not been a single one sold. The only other P3 550's and 600's available were in the build to order system (both Compaq and HP) He was very expressive about the huge amount of interest in the Athlons when I asked about it."

Looks like the 650s have hit the shelves, along with the 500s and 600s.

There was ONE PIII 600 system advertised at Best Buy when that chip came out. With the 533 and 600 PIIIB, Best Buy has ZERO systems advertised.

Again, this is Intel's worst product launch ever! And this is BEFORE the news of the fiasco hit could change things.
