Microsoft has agreed to invest $15 million in Akamai Technologies, giving it about a 1 percent stake in the Internet start-up, according to a report.
Citing a person familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal reported that the investment values the one-year-old firm, which offers services that speed delivery of Web pages, is $1.4 billion.
As part of its agreement with Microsoft, the paper said Akamai will develop a version of its computer-server software that can run on Microsoft's Windows NT operating system, which is primarily geared for business users.
The paper said until now, citing its source, Akamai's software has run on Linux, a Unix-like operating system.
Last month, Akamai filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering, the paper said.
The companies could not immediately be reached by Reuters for comment.
The paper said spokespeople for the two companies declined to comment. |
