10 Years, 5 Acquisitions and 3,000 Products Later - BioSource International, Inc. Celebrates its First Decade
CAMARILLO, Calif., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- BioSource International, Inc. (Nasdaq: BIOI) today announced its 10th year anniversary celebration, an event planned in honor of its employees and achievements. BioSource is a profitable company with a strong revenue growth that has achieved enormous success despite a lagging biotech stock market. The company is a leading developer of cutting-edge products and basic research materials that enable the acceleration of drug discovery and development.
Four years ago, the company had 800 research products to offer -- now it offers more than 3,000 products to leading industry and government scientists in major biomedical markets, including the United States, Europe and Japan. Its customer base includes over 3,000 world-renowned institutional research centers, and leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
BioSource's success is driven by its strategic business model focusing on acquisitions that expand its in-house research expertise, extensive product portfolio, and worldwide customer outreach. The company has made five acquisitions in the past decade and now has four fully owned subsidiaries: Keystone in Foster City, Calif.; BioSource Europe, SA in Belgium; Quality Controlled Biochemicals (QCB) in Mass.; and BioFluids in Md.
This year the company engaged in a strategic collaboration with the Children's Hospital Los Angeles Research Institute (CHLARI) which provided BioSource with an excellent resource of research tools for potential commercialization. The CHLARI is a non-profit organization and a center of scientific excellence, housing over 500 post-doctorial fellows, graduate students and tenured faculty. BioSource is providing the CHLARI with an annual research grant of $100,000 to help diagnose, treat and prevent pediatric diseases.
BioSource was founded in 1989 by James H. Chamberlain, the president and chief executive officer, who credits the company's success to its ability to look ahead in a rapidly growing biomedical industry. "We owe our success to our dedicated employees, capable management team, expert research scientists and knowledgeable sales representatives. Our researchers are dedicated to finding novel mechanisms for advancing therapeutic knowledge in major disease areas, and our sales force helps keep our product line at the forefront of cutting-edge research by engaging leading scientists in discussions about prospective research," he commented.
BioSource International, Inc. is engaged in the development, manufacture, marketing and distribution of more than 3,000 products, including immunological reagents, test kits and oligonucleotides used in biomedical research. The types of products supplied by the company include a range of bioactive proteins, enzymes, antibodies, human and murine cytokines, and growth factors as well as a variety of assay systems for the detection of biological molecules.
