There's an article in today's WP about Quayle pulling out, noting that polls showed that he was in second place behind Bush.

Funny, McCain is in 3rd, 4th or 5th place and he's announcing his run today. The difference is that Quayle got little but bad press while McCain's attack on political speech has endeared him to the national media, as witnessed in coverage and backing by the Dem editorial pages of the NYT and WP.

That should send a powerful message to thinking Republicans.
