Open Architecture Will Help Establish Industry Standard
MILPITAS, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic (NYSE:LSI) Corporation today announced a licensing strategy centered around new ZSP(TM) digital signal processor (DSP) architecture. The open architecture, available for licensing, encompasses a family of embeddable DSP cores for ASICs and ASSPs. This move toward non-proprietary DSPs opens the door to multiple end- user sources, ensuring steady, competitive and alternative supplies from ZSP architecture licensed partners.
"Up until now, DSP technology hasn't been readily accessible," said Giuseppe Staffaroni, vice-president and general manager of LSI Logic's Communications Products Division. "By offering ZSP as an open-architecture, we are providing industry leading DSP technology that makes next generation wireless infrastructure and networking applications possible today."
ZSP is a powerful, innovative DSP architecture that offers an unrivaled combination of superior signal processing performance, optimum memory usage, high code density, and ease-of-programming. Using a state-of-the-art superscalar approach, the ZSP architecture meets the demands of today's most challenging DSP applications and also ensures a path to the future. ZSP is the only open architecture DSP available in silicon with this level of processing performance and is available for licensing.
"The ZSP architecture can be tailored to wireless handset applications and offers significantly less power dissipation than most alternatives," said Will Strauss of Forward Concepts Co. "The DSP market is currently driven by digital wireless applications and is growing at least 25% this year to the $4.4 billion level and we forecast over 30% annual growth through 2003 to the $13 billion level."
In recognition of the importance of the ZSP architecture, LSI Logic has opened an advanced DSP Design Center to develop software and architecture enhancements. Drawing on the company's experience in state-of-the-art, high capacity manufacturing and system-on-a-chip expertise in over 500 CoreWare(R) designs, the DSP Design Center will ensure that ZSP processor cores are truly embeddable.
The ZSP open architecture is a natural solution for many companies, and ZSP will grow as they grow. To find out more about the ZSP architecture and Partnership Programs, visit the website at zsp.com or email dsp-mkt@zsp.com. |
