Jim,

"When the RDRAM-based platforms are released they will have passed substantial, broad, and rigorous system-level testing. The goal of Rambus and our partners is to provide a solution at a higher quality standard than what occurred at prior memory transitions," said Dave Mooring, senior vice president of Rambus Inc.

Great idea! <G>

So now my first question for John W. and Carl is: Does the Rambus technology involve anything that has never been done or seen before?

If so, then we could be headed for more potential problems in bringing out such a radical new technology. But from what I've seen of their posts flying back and forth, everything they're doing has been implemented before, in which case it's a matter of getting organizations that haven't had to implement/test to this higher level of tolerances to do so.

If there were no DDR, then we'd have few problems (from a long term perspective). It would be just a short delay in the transition. The question now is whether the DDR folks get aggressive and convert some of the design wins. Hopefully not. The AMII web page (www.ami2.com) hasn't changed yet.
