Re Dell/IBM
IMO the next two years are payoff time for both companies- for all the hard work they have done in the past.
For IBM because they realized the value of opening up their patents to other companies. For Dell because they took the course of
arranging for service by a worldwide, world class organization s rather than waste dollars and resources expanding in that area. For Dell to do that would have required doubling the number of employees when experienced people are very hard to find.
Dell can now proceed in their best area of expertise, implementing
manufacturing ,sales, and distribution efficiencies, and avoid the
cost of expanding their existing services to handle the extra load
created by that 50%/year growth in sales. And IBM will have a
stable growing marketeer for flat panels, DD's, and other items on the drawing boards.
It will take time for the magnitude of this combination
to be measured( other than by Kemble)hehe. It will far exceed any
of the present bank buyouts because the banking industry does not grow at 35 to 50%/ year.
