Twister, walk the walk over to other threads on SI and ask the question, "What platform are you (developer) writing to?".

Most developers are developing on Windows (since that's where the most productive tools are) and deploying on Windows for user interactive applications. For back-end it's probably a fairly even split between NT and UNIX. I suspect with tools like UWIN we'll see server deployment migrate to NT over the next couple of years since it provides the best price/performance numbers (tpc.org).

John Carmack (ID Software) commented once that he could spend two weeks hacking around with 'vi' and command line debuggers on UNIX to get a module up and running or do it in MSFT Visual C++ in a day and port it to UNIX if and when he needed too.
