Very odd rumor, since Exabyte doesn't make "disks". They make libraries and tape drives.

That said, Sun earlier this year made a deal with Ancor (ANCR) that may serve as a model for a possible deal with Exabyte, where they get stock warrants which vest as they use Exbyte product, essentially making Exabyte stockholders pay Sun to sell their product through dilution. Of course, Exbayte's management will get credit for saving the company, and will get lots of stock as well. But the stock must go up for either to get anything, so go up it will, and everyone will somehow win. The deal sent Ancor stock soaring after it was announced, FWIW.

All that said, all of this may be just blowing smoke. I have absolutely no knowledge of any deals between Sun and Exabyte.
