You may have read my best selling book, Penni's Paean to Pugilism and so are aware that Mike Tyson studied under Vincent (Say Again?) Van Gogh, who is alleged to have stolen the heavyweight belt from John L Sullivan when he borrowed his ear from his girlfriend and taped it back on for the match, ripping it off with an ear-splitting (Heehee) scream at a crucial moment in the fight.
Not being the brightest bulb in the chandelier, Tyson, while an earnest pupil, was unable to grasp the subtleties of the ruse, and when confronted by an available ear, failed to realize it wasn't his own and figured any ear in a clutch would do. Ear today, gone tomorrow.
