GUM TECH ANNOUNCES PHARMA GREEN TO LAUNCH CHILDREN'S DENTAL GUM IN ISRAEL IN MCDONALD'S KIDS' MEALS

PR NEWSWIRE - September 27, 1999 13:42
PHOENIX, Sep 27, 1999 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Gum Tech International (Nasdaq: GUMM) announced today that Pharma Green Ltd has begun a $1 million dollar advertising campaign to promote its Double Gum series of functional chewing gums in Israel. The Double Gum series of functional chewing gums consists of eight different functional gums designed and manufactured for Pharma Green Ltd. by Gum Tech.

Pharma Green Ltd. is the functional food division of the Pharm Up Group, a 32-year-old conglomerate of pharmaceutical and health product distributors in Israel and abroad. The Pharm Up Group specializes in marketing health products of local and multinational manufacturers. Pharm Up, with sales of over $95 million per year, distributes through pharmacies, drug stores, chain stores, medical institutes, and health organizations.

Pharma Green Ltd. has been distributing functional gums exclusively developed and manufactured for it by Gum Tech since September 1998. Since then, it has been conducting an aggressive marketing campaign designed to secure a leadership position in the overall Israeli chewing gum market. Since launching the gums, Pharma Green Ltd. has grown to be the largest functional gum distributor in Israel.

Motti Cohen, Pharma Green's general manager, said, "One of the highlights of the campaign will be the launch of our Children's Dental Gum in cooperation with McDonald's, one of the leading hamburger chains in Israel. Children who purchase a kid's meal will receive 6 pieces of our Children's Fruit Flavored Dental Gum, as well as a coupon entitling them to participate in a raffle to win free meals at McDonald's. Entering the raffle will require proof of purchase of additional packages of gum."

According to Cohen, "The launch of the Children's Dental Gum with McDonald's will involve a joint television commercial, and full page advertisements in the two biggest daily newspapers in Israel and in four children's weekly papers."

Cohen continued, "The campaign for the entire category of functional gums will involve advertising and marketing in all types of media throughout Israel."

"Pharma Green is very excited about the launch of this large advertising campaign. It is our hope that this advertising campaign, together with the support of McDonald's, which operates 75 restaurants throughout Israel, will help us continue launching our line of functional gums," Cohen concluded.
