Hi Scott:

Re QAM and MMDS/LMDS. QAM signals require a high signal
to noise ratio. LMDS signals are more susceptible to rain
fade than MMDS signals, so that under rainy conditions,
the required signal to noise ratio is not present.
The ideal scheme for LMDS is really to use a high-order
QAM modulation scheme in dry weather, and fall back
on a lower order scheme when rain starts.

MMDS is essentially immune to rain.

Regards,

Bernard Levy
