Actually Ian, the better reason for a competitor to buy them would be, not because of a wafer shortage, but to cause a wafer shortage. A competitor could buy WFR, then shut down sufficient plants to assure a "firm" price for wafers. How much it would be worth for this purpose, I don't know, but it could be worth a premium, provided anti-trust factors didn't prevent the acquisition.
