Corel finds a friend in Linux software

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Software maker Corel Corp. unveiled a software distribution agreement with Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Ebiz Enterprises Inc., maker of Linux-based computer systems.
Ebiz plans to pre-load Corel WordPerfect 8 for Linux Personal Edition onto some of its desktop computers and hand-held Internet access machines.
"We are excited to be partnering with Corel, who shares our commitment to Linux, said Jeffrey Rassas, founder and chief executive officer of Ebiz in a statement. Shares of Corel (CORL: news, msgs) rose 21/32 to 7 31/32. The company traded near 3 in June.

Symantec online store gets nod
Symantec online store at www.symantecstore.com was named one of the year's 10 best online software stores by the technology trade publication Softletter. Other software makers' stores on the list include Corel, Hewlett-Packard Co. and IBM Corp.'s Lotus Division. Shares of Symantec jumped 1 3/4 to 33 13/16.
"The Internet is rapidly developing into a mainstream (sales) channel for Symantec," said Mike Flanagan, Symantec's director, e-commerce sales & marketing in a statement. "Symantec's online store expands our product availability and complements our strong retail presence." |
