Maas,

Last October SanDisk had a market capitalization of about $150 million when the stock tanked to cash value. If you compare that to the giants in the industry such as Toshiba, Samsung, Intel... you can see that the company had the potential to vaporize and leave nothing but a slight silicon residue on some parched earth in Northern California. Think about it. The Asian Flu was in full force. IBM and Iomega were flexing their muscles. Sony had perfected the use of the floppy. The notion of "digital photography for everyone" was still a couple quarters away. You get the picture. It was pretty damn bleak.

Well this is a small company in a tough industry; semiconductors. All it has to rely on is its innovation and a couple of consumer "commodities" that the average Joe can put together in his garage on the weekend.

I see it as an underdog in that sense.

Over the past year the prospects for the company have been coming into clearer focus. These prospects are immense. But this is not because of a fundamental change in the company itself, rather the landscape that surrounds it.

SanDisk is still small and vulnerable. Read the registration statement for the secondary offering. SanDisk is "risky". It is starting to exit its toddler years and enter a rather challenging adolescence.

I have the utmost faith in the foresight of SanDisk management. I think they will be able to navigate around the challenges ahead. But fasten your seat belt just in case.
