Globalstar was not meant to replace cellular. However, it sought to take advantage of gaps in places where your cellular carrier did not have roaming agreements. Eg, if you are a GSM subscriber in Europe, you cannot roam in the US. Therefore, in the US, you may be within GTE's cellular coverage, but if your home carrier does not have a roaming agreement signed with GTE,you cannot use GTEs network. Step in Globalstar. WIth consolidation, carrier will find better ways to work together and enable you to use the same phone whereever you are in the the world. Move over Globalstar.
