The recording industry is a perfect example of putting your faith in a living person rather than the other way around:

In the Sept 30 Barron's, the future of recording companies was discussed. Simply put, the ability for a company to survive was based on the success of its major recording artist. The developing talent doesn't add much to the bottom line and in order to sign a new artist, a monetary advance is usually required. Thus, the internet poses a threat to recording companies by giving the major artist the freedom to open his/herown distribution website. Putting faith in a single person carries no guarantees for the music business.
