PPRO+ARBA News today..This is HUGE!!!!

Further Extends Ariba Network's Reach to Small and Midsize Businesses

LAS VEGAS and SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- PurchasePro.com
(Nasdaq: PPRO) and Ariba, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARBA) today jointly announced their
intent to form a strategic alliance and Internet revenue sharing arrangement
under which PurchasePro.com will connect its business community to the Ariba
Network(TM) platform, the industry's leading business-to-business eCommerce
platform on the Internet.
Under the arrangement, PurchasePro.com customers will be able to buy from
the suppliers already integrated with the Ariba Network platform. In
addition, PurchasePro.com community members will gain access to Ariba Network
services, including transaction routing, business directory services,
aggregated supplier content, content management, and supplier registration and
configuration services.
This strategic relationship would increase the reach of the Ariba Network
platform by electronically connecting the suppliers found on PurchasePro.com's
network to buying organizations using the Ariba(R) eCommerce solution.
Ariba's customer base, which already includes more than ten percent of Fortune
100 companies, collectively spends more than US$138 billion annually on
operating resources, the operating goods and services required for daily
operations. In addition, suppliers registered with the Ariba Network platform
could easily sell to PurchasePro.com's small and medium-sized buying
customers. The strategic relationship demonstrates Ariba's strategy to create
new, significant on-ramps to the Ariba Network platform.
In addition, PurchasePro.com has signed on to become a sustaining partner
in Ariba's Commerce XML (cXML) initiative. More than 90 companies, including
Microsoft and WebMethods, now support cXML. PurchasePro.com will integrate
its buyer and supplier base with the Ariba Network platform via cXML, further
endorsing cXML as the dominant, open industry standard for
business-to-business eCommerce for both buy-side and sell-side applications.
"I believe our relationship with PurchasePro.com will accelerate the
network effect around the Ariba Network platform and increase the adoption of
cXML on the Internet," said Keith Krach, president and CEO at Ariba. "Working
with PurchasePro.com further extends our Internet channel strategy to make
on-ramps to the Ariba Network platform more ubiquitous and extend the value
added benefits of network-based commerce to all businesses, large and small."
