AMERICA ONLINE AND MARKETWATCH.COM ANNOUNCE MULTI-YEAR, Multi-Million Dollar Strategic Relationship Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers
DULLES, Va. and NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 1999-- America Online, Inc. (NYSE:AOL), the world's leading interactive services company, and MarketWatch.com (NASDQ:MKTW), a leading web-based financial news provider, today announced a strategic relationship in which CBS MarketWatch will become a premier provider of business and financial news across several of the largest AOL brands.
This agreement is another example of the strategic content partnership that CBS and AOL have had since 1995, which has included CBS Network programming, CBS News, and CBS SportsLine.
Under the new three-year agreement, for which Marketwatch.com will provide $21 million in cash and promotion, AOL's more than 18 million members, along with millions of additional visitors to AOL.COM and Netscape Netcenter, will be able to benefit from CBS MarketWatch's business and financial news and analysis.
The agreement also extends and expands MarketWatch.com's existing relationship with CompuServe, reaching its more than two million members.
CBS MarketWatch will be an anchor tenant in AOL's Business News Center, Investment Research, and Active Trader--Internet Stocks areas of AOL's Personal Finance channel. In addition, links across several AOL brands will provide instant and direct access to a CBS MarketWatch/AOL co-branded site.
CBS MarketWatch headlines will be provided through AOL, AOL.COM, Netscape Netcenter and CompuServe, linked back to stories on the co-branded site. According to the July '99 Media Metrix report, AOL's Personal Finance channel is the No. 1 destination in cyberspace, with more than 10 million regular users each month. Traffic to the Personal Finance channel has increased 81 percent over the same time last year.
