Good morning Neo! Thanks. Been quietly enjoying the conversations. Interesting points both you and Stephen have been making regarding the political process and the former Soviet Union.

One issue I felt added greatly to the break-up of the Soviet Union was the telecommunication revolution. I believe Gorbechev had a vision of the future and saw a time close at hand, when they could not prevent the truth from reaching the shores of mother Russia.

Preventing the telecommunication revolution from impacting Soviet society was tantamount to relegating his country to third world status in only a few decades. He was a well travelled person and saw this clearer than other Soviet leaders.

The "inflection point" had been reached. And there was no way to close off the Soviet society completely from it.
