To eSignal Subscribers:

Yesterday, DBC experienced a wide-scale problem with our service that impacted a significant number of our subscribers. After much investigation and much work, the problem was isolated to one of our major ISP vendors.

It appeared that they had an assigned an "invalid route" to DBC. In layman's terms, this means that a piece of their network equipment (a router) was telling the Internet (at large) that from this router, I can route the data to DBC (dbc.com), when in fact this router was unable to provide this function.

The bottom line was that any data that went through that particular router went nowhere and just got lost on the net and never made it to our site.

We spent about 5 hours trying to isolate and pin-point the bad router with the technical folks at this ISP and around 9:30 PDT, we had restored about 90% of our connectivity.

We are sorry for the inconvenience that this outage caused. Even with all of our redundancy to the Internet, this problem caused by the ISP was unrecoverable from our end. Unfortunately, these types of errors will occur infrequently and when they do, we will ensure that our networking folks work with the proper people and resolve these issues as quickly as possible.
