Partners With Award-Winning Northern Light On New Paradigm for Web Information Delivery
BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 1999--NewsEdge Corporation (Nasdaq: NEWZ), the leading independent provider of global news and current awareness solutions, today announced that it will harness the power and value of business oriented Web content by incorporating Northern Light's award winning Web searching, classification and monitoring capabilities. In addition, NewsEdge users will have access to Northern Light's comprehensive archive of over 6,000 premium business publications.
NewsEdge customers will be able to seamlessly combine real-time news and NewsEdge Review(TM) topics from the NewsEdge Refinery (TM), with the Web-based content and premium archive from Northern Light. The Web search capability scans over 50,000 business-focused Web sites, and uniquely classifies the results into a set of customized folders, allowing the user to easily pinpoint the most relevant results.

Exact terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but the Web searching capability will drive a new advertising-based revenue stream, and as a result will allow NewsEdge Corporation to provide this additional value to its clients as part of their base service. This is the first step in leveraging the value of new Internet business models to benefit NewsEdge Enterprise customers.
Initially, the enhancements will be made available to NewsEdge Insight and Workgroups subscribers as part of their base services. Availability is scheduled this winter.
