My comment that all politicians lie is not a defense of Clinton, it is a statement of fact.

But if all politicians lie, are they really lies any longer? My dictionary defines a lie as "a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive." If all politicians lie, and the people by now know it, can the people be deceived, and therefore is there really an intent to deceive? If the intent is only to get elected, is the untrue statement then not a lie!

My mother used to say that a lie was "a deliberate deception." You could tell the literal truth and still lie, or tell a literal untruth and not lie (such as saying a person left the house a half-hour ago when they really left thirty-five minutes ago; technically false, but not intended to deceive.)
