Eicon's WAN Cards to Support QNX Real Time OS
SEPTEMBER 28, 1999 SAN JOSE,CALIFORNIA--EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, BOOTH #4418. Eicon Technology, a global leader in remote access solutions, today announced an alliance to integrate its wide area networking (WAN) hardware with QNX Software Systems' QNX(r) Real-time OS (RTOS). By joining the QNX Partner Program, Eicon further extends its commitment to offer developers of networked applications the widest choice of off-the-shelf embedded communications solutions available. Eicon's range of WAN products coupled with QNX RTOS give developers a highly reliable, flexible platform on which to build robust applications, such as multimedia payphones, for the global telecommunication and data communication markets. Eicon's joint development efforts with QNX will further the proliferation of consumer electronics devices (Internet phones, set-top boxes, and so on), automotive technologies (like navigation, engine monitoring and control) and handheld devices with WAN communications systems. Other markets to benefit from these Internet-enabled embedded systems include: industrial automation, point-of-sale, telecommunications, and medical instrumentation where vendors are looking to install off-the-shelf communications systems into their systems for all kinds of remote monitoring and management tasks. "By working together, Eicon and QNX can offer their worldwide customers a robust, ready-to-use platform for building networked applications," said Linda Campbell, vice president of strategic alliances at QNX. "And by taking advantage of this off-the-shelf technology, developers can focus on what's important: creating unique, compelling features for their networked products." "This relationship is another example of Eicon's commitment to partner with the leading Real-Time operating systems vendors to bring unparalleled quality communications platforms to the embedded market," said Ken Gingrich, Eicon's Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales & Marketing Operations. "With our global approvals and certifications, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware solutions and our ability to license that technology, we are able to address the needs of the embedded telecommunication and data communication markets."
